Good stuff for the eyes and mind

Walking Wisdom by Gotham Chopra with Deepak Chopra

Many years ago I came across a small book called The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra. It was a book that constantly dinged in the back of my mind as I read. It connected.  And so have many of his other books. I admire the man. I am fascinated by his brain. So, when his son produced a book, I wasn’t sure if I was ready to see inside the public figure. What if, even unintentionally, Gotham peeled back a bandage and revealed more than I wanted to see. Was I ready to see a god-ish figure fall?

I needn’t have worried.

Reading about moments inside the life of Deepak, via Gotham’s, has given me more to admire – if that’s possible. This man is a real as real can be in this imaginary world we perceive as real. And it was a joy to read excerpts from one of his adult-children.  You can’t help but like the family, and you fall in love with the dog Cleo just as they have (Krishu the kid is pretty special too). Gotham Chopra is not only a readable writer—he is a well-rounded human being—thanks to his parents and clan.

I highly recommend this book. It’s a delightful taste of a life not many of us live. Not just because it’s full of the Chopra life but because it has so much to show us about living our lives well.  It’s a healthy dose of love, wrapped in Gotham’s humour and genuine enjoyment of his life.

Throughout this book I have, in my secret of hearts, envied Gotham’s family life because it overflows into everything. In this life I am a private person who struggles to keep a connection to my family. I suppose that is my bag to pack—living with a shallow connector gene. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoy my life. I love my family—I just prefer to be alone. And while I’m not unhappy, I want to understand this life so I’m not such a solitary soul in the next go-round.

One thing I am sure of—this is a highly enjoyable read and now I am a fan of two members of the Chopra family. (maybe three if you count dog.)
